Supported Hardware Platform vs Hardware Development Platform [Apollo 3.0][LiDAR][Hardware] #5823

Hello,

I'm considering adopting Apollo as the platform that I build my AV system on top of. However.... My system currently uses many VLP-16s, similar to King Long's vehicle.

I read that "[VLP 16 lidar]...only be used to collect data and cannot replace their counterparts in the reference design directly."

But I also see that King Long is not using the HDL-64E for their vehicle?

Is it possible to use Apollo with a fused cloud of multiple VLP-16 instead of a single HDL-64E?

@lianglia-apollo Can you offer any insight into this?

KingLong is a close partner of Apollo, we provided a highly specialized turn-key solution for them. That is not the same with the open-sourced version of Apollo. What we described under this repo is for the opensource version. VLP-16 cannot directly replace HDL-64 as I see it.
