Any plans for an 1.8.9 update?

We are not sure what to do about this, we may integrate some of this into AE2 itself, or as part of it's API. The problem is that we don't want to add stuff to the white list without testing and/or approval of the mod's author because there could well be some hidden errors with some TileEntities that may corrupt a world over time.
