Sponsor Page: What is format, size and design for sponsor entries? (design needed) #32

Closed g7morris closed 12 years ago

g7morris commented 12 years ago

Sponsor page missing, please add back with stub entry from original Gavin website.

What are the formats, sizes, etc for the logos on the sponsor page?

bloomingbridges commented 12 years ago

I need some more info like Are we putting just the logos on there or are we adding name, web url, what they do and what they're sponsoring etc?

A vector format would be preferable, alternatively a png with transparency or a jpg with a pure white background, for premium sponsors stands a minimum width of 270px, for others 180px.

g7morris commented 12 years ago

Florian you are correct sir. info and reference are here.

This was the thought anyhow.

Logo, URL link, short description.

If you'd like to reskin it, I think we're all ears.

bloomingbridges commented 12 years ago

How about we reveal the full details on hover so we save some vertical space and it becomes more visual? Just an idea

pdarcey commented 12 years ago

It'd be nice, as Florian says, to just show the logos, and reveal the full details on hover.

I'd like to have, say, three levels: large logos for major sponsors, medium logos for smaller sponsors and text links for minor donations. Can we do that?

g7morris commented 12 years ago

@bloomingbridges Perhaps a sketch when you have time?

spllr commented 12 years ago

For now all data should be visible.

Pages should be indexable and people should be able to read the names without interaction. We can add show on hover layer later on. Lets keep the count of moving parts to a minimum.

pdarcey commented 12 years ago

Ok, I'd still like the three levels, though

spllr commented 12 years ago

There will be multiple levels.

bloomingbridges commented 12 years ago

Here's a quick mockup Sponsors page design

spllr commented 12 years ago

Looking good.

Did you already decide on the main graphic in the top?

Will you create the html/ css or shall I? I would like to have the sponsors page implemented today, will that work for you?

pdarcey commented 12 years ago

That does look good, guys!

Change the contact details to sponsors@appsterdam.rs, not any individual: "If you or your company would like to be a sponsor of Appsterdam, please contact us at sponsors@appsterdam.rs for more details"

bloomingbridges commented 12 years ago

@spllr If the layout can easily be accomplished with the Zurb thing that you're using that I'd say go ahead. Regarding the artwork on top, that's still open to discussion. It would take me at least to hours to make it look good so unless we have an Illustrator at hand that we can load it off to.. but yeah today sounds realistic.

spllr commented 12 years ago

I'll use the zurb stuff.

Can you index which illustrations we need, so what pages need an illustration? For now I will use the illustrations you created as placeholders.

spllr commented 12 years ago

I'm working on the sponsor page.

@pdarcey can you provide me with the sponsor that need to go up. See the list below for the field I need.

I added an adhoc sponsor level. Handy for WWDC type things.

spllr commented 12 years ago

@pdarcey And I off course need an image as well.

Images are resized by the system to the following sizes:

big = 560x374 medium = 270x180 small = 178x118

So any size which scales down to these dimension will do. JPG or PNG.

bloomingbridges commented 12 years ago

OKay.

  1. If the quote is here to stay than I suggest we need an Illustration of Mike in one form or another (e.g. pirate hat and goggles)
  2. (Recurring) donations
  3. Support from sponsors, not just monetary but also food and workspace etc.
  4. Get involved illustration (I quite like the idea of a spanner twisting an Appsterdam-labelled screw)
  5. Icons for volunteering vacancies?
  6. Weekly Lunchtime Lecture logo?

Of course they're all nice-to-haves and not super essential. Also the badges can also be seen as small illustrations themselves so we're already busy on that front.

spllr commented 12 years ago

Ok, quite a list do get done before Wednesday. We need to move to final content asap. What do you suggest we do to get this done?

spllr commented 12 years ago

Mayor off-course is major

bloomingbridges commented 12 years ago

Can we tweek the system to make the small images a round 180x120px? That way it's easier to memorise. All of them can either be left out or replaced with simple design elements if there's time. Any word from the other creatives?

spllr commented 12 years ago

Changed to 180x120.

No, no word yet.

spllr commented 12 years ago

Do you have somebody in mind we could pull in for the illustrations?

bloomingbridges commented 12 years ago

Hmm the only Illustrator I know is currently attend his uncle's funeral and not available for free so no :/

spllr commented 12 years ago

Well, lets make a call on it during the meeting tomorrow.

spllr commented 12 years ago

@pdarcey if there is any change you use this format for the sponsor data I would much appreciate it.

data:
  name: "SoftLayer"
description: "Build the future on a global cloud infrastructure made for Internet scale. Learn about the SoftLayer platform, and its advantages for next-gen services and solutions."
  twitter: "@SoftLayer"
  email: "sales@softlayer.com"
  website: "http://www.softlayer.com"
short: "Recognized for Industry-leading Technology and Vision"
  level: "major"
logo: 'softlayer.jpg'
pdarcey commented 12 years ago

I've sent off a request to SoftLayer, Big Nerd Ranch and Glimworm for their info and a logo from each one. I also sent Mike and Leonie a request as well, as they have donated time/effort and deserve recognition.

We don't have any "Major" sponsors yet. The ones I mentioned above are all medium sponsors.

The example you've used for SoftLayer looks about right (until they reply). The others (until they reply) are:-

data: name: "Big Nerd Ranch" description: "Big Nerd Ranch exists to broaden the minds of our students and the businesses of our clients. Whether we are training talented individuals or developing a company's mobile strategy, our core philosophy is integral to everything we do. These TRUTHS are really the principles we apply in our teaching and in our approach to software development." twitter: "@BigNerdRanch" email: "mspeller@bignerdranch.com" website: "http://www.bignerdranch.com" short description: "Achieve Nerdvana" set: "show" logo: "http://www.bignerdranch.com/img/background/logo.png"

data: name: "Glimworm" description: "Glimworm levert kennis, kwaliteit en service op het internet, hét medium van deze tijd. Wij zijn websites. Glimworm is de one-stop-shop waar men analyseert en adviseert, ontwikkelt en ondersteunt." twitter: "@GlimwormIT" email: "sales@glimworm.com" website: "http://www.glimworm.com" short description: "We are websites" set: "show" logo: "http://www.glimworm.com/_site8/images/glimworm.png"

spllr commented 12 years ago

Can you use an English text for GlimWorm.

I would also like to add FingerTips as they worked on the previous site.

I think we should have BNR and Softlayer as major for now and add leonie and the rest in the medium section. We can add level above that one later on.

spllr commented 12 years ago

New version of the sponsor page is deployed.

Added most things in the design.

I did not use zurb as it overwrites styles. Any change you could add the rest of the css/ html and pass it to me so I can implement it?

g7morris commented 12 years ago

Page implemented. Finished. Agreed that Large Sponsors have larger logo and description. BNR and Softlayer happy with layout, keep design.
