A kohlfahrt (German for "cabbage journey", perhaps "boerenkoolvaart" in Dutch?) is an old Bremen tradition of walking through the woods with your friends, dragging a wagon full of booze and snacks, playing silly games all along the way, and ending at a giant feasting hall where you dine on a buffet of sausages, potatoes, and of course, kohl. Basically, it's just a big excuse to get together with a large group of friends and get drunk together. For you non-drinkers out there, take it from a fellow non-drinker (myself), this is still a ton of fun.

Appsterdam and CocoaHeads Bremen will celebrate our 4th annual kohlfahrt sometime in January or February. We've already started planning and because we have to reserve the restaurant well in advance, we want to know: Are you thinking of joining? If so, gimme a :+1:!

You can see some photos from last year.

So, it's that time of year again, huh? :+1:

Thumbz up ;)

casademora commented 10 years ago

tried to post the "thumbs up" symbol, but failed, am I still nerd enough to join? ;)

Protip @MMerel Type a ":" and some emoji options will pop up.

Another protip for all: Use your Twitter handle as your GitHub handle.

SidelineNoob commented 10 years ago

@judykitteh thanks - will probably take me some browsing around to figure it all out, but at least I can now say:

Ok so far I've got: @magnusdahl1 @dusker @casademora @SidelineNoob @erikr @sgoodwin @judykitteh @ElDragonRojo @maggix @tross6 @ribeto @ratkins +1 @pdarcey @falconcreek @donnauniversalis

If you're not sure whether you can make it or not, it's better to be included in the count now so we can overestimate the number rather than underestimate and try to add more spaces later.

tross6 commented 10 years ago

OK. please add me then. :-)

ribeto commented 10 years ago

How many days does this last? I'm thinking about it too :+1:

judykitteh commented 10 years ago

@tross6 Hooray!

@ribeto Typically it's 3 days:

  1. Leave on Friday to arrive in Bremen in late afternoon or early evening.
  2. Have the kohlfahrt on Saturday (takes all day, from after lunch to midnight or so).
  3. Have a lazy, hangover Sunday and head back to Amsterdam.

If you want to arrive separately on Saturday, that's fine, but it's a bit less fun :)

If possible, we can rent some cars if anyone has EU drivers' licenses. If not, we'll take the train. Either way, it's about 4 hours of travel each way.

Yumyoko commented 10 years ago

Hi everybody, please sign up on the official Kohlfahrt site: http://www.meetup.com/Appsterdam/events/156762862/ Places can run out, so hurry up. If you aren't sure if you can make it, leave us a comment.

judykitteh commented 10 years ago

I've just sent an email to everyone who RSVP'd yes on the Meetup, regarding travel and accommodations. Be sure to read it!

If you haven't RSVP'd yet, what are you waiting for?! ;P

judykitteh commented 10 years ago

Closing this issue since the kohlfahrt is this weekend and I think we've got all logistics covered by now. :)

dennisreimann commented 10 years ago

Yeehaw, see y'all soon - really looking forward to the Kohl and the tour :)
