update names in metacoder function to be more consistent and clear #22

Addresses #21. Also follows the function naming scheme I laid out in #19.

A bunch of the names kinda sucked, so this PR fixes that so they'll be more standardized throughout the code base and make more sense without having to read the documentation.

All tests are passing locally. I promise to set up CI soon!
