Feature Request - Type Status invalid #6434

IMHO we should be using DWC fields as intended and if we want to do our own thing on top of that we should use other fields. The field TYPE STATUS is intended to hold values like "HOLOTYPE" not "Voucher of Pseudodineura new species in Sikes & Slowik 2010; holotype of Pseudodineura kasatochi in S more .."

Compare these two records in GBIF:

one Holotype from Arctos: https://www.gbif.org/occurrence/1146117271 and one from MCZ https://www.gbif.org/occurrence/1836946222

MCZ is using TYPE status properly and thus this record in GBIF is clearly marked as the Holotype of this species. The Arctos record is not.

This could eventually become a funding problem if word gets out that Arctos is not cooperating with international standards - why risk this?

As I said above - there is great functionality in what we're doing with citations that we do not have to lose. All we have to do is use the DWC fields as intended and make our own fields if we want to do something that won't mesh with GBIF.

Priority Please assign a priority-label. Unprioritized issues gets sent into a black hole of despair.

For reference also look at the examples in the Darwin Core Quick Reference Guide for dwc:typeStatus

If you look at the provided examples.

We are mostly complying - except that our multiples should be separated by <space>|<space> instead of <space>;<space>

Additionally, the key word in the DWC definition is 'nomenclatural' - we're using this field for many non-nomenclatural citation types (referrals, vouchers, etc.)
