MSB Mamm Legacy Arctos Reporter labels to do #7240

Open AdrienneRaniszewski opened 10 months ago

AdrienneRaniszewski commented 10 months ago

These are the report templates MSB Division of Mammals uses regularly and the ones we need saved. None of us here know html, so we need someone to rebuild these for us. They are listed here in order of priority. Thank you!

MSB_Mamm_fluid_skin_tag MSB_Mamm_small_label MSB_Mamm_large_label MSB_Mamm_skin_tags MSB_Mamm_skin_tags_special MSB_Mamm_small_label_special MSB_Mamm_fluid_skin_tag_special

AdrienneRaniszewski commented 10 months ago

@jldunnum

dustymc commented 10 months ago

@Jegelewicz have you done these?

Jegelewicz commented 10 months ago

Nope

dustymc commented 10 months ago

OK thanks. (Maybe that was loans?)

@AdrienneRaniszewski can you provide a query (for each or all)? Either a saved search or parameterized URL will make this go much smoother.

Jegelewicz commented 10 months ago

Maybe that was loans

yep!

AdrienneRaniszewski commented 10 months ago

Dusty, not sure what you're asking for. A query of a few catalog numbers?

dustymc commented 10 months ago

I brought over the SQL for MSB_Mamm_fluid_skin_tag, but it isn't valid, and I think uses some very old data. Are we sure that's the right report?!

Is there any desire to have any standardization in these? Eg they all seem to manipulate sex, and they all seem to do it a little differently. Intentional?

@AdrienneRaniszewski yes an example of what you might use the label for, ideally in some form that I can click here to open and then get to the label from that. Doesn't have to be perfect, just something more realistic than my default "catalog number=some smallish integer" will probably save some back-and-forth. (I'm assuming the various labels correspond with variability in data, if that's not true we can start with catnum=12...)

AdrienneRaniszewski commented 10 months ago

That is the report that we've been using. and it still works for me just now.

And no, any difference in how a report gets at the same piece of data is not intentional. Just me fumbling around trying to figure stuff out.

I'll send a list of catalog numbers.

Thank you!

AdrienneRaniszewski commented 10 months ago

here's a few MSB:Mamm catalog numbers: 123123, 346117, 300000, 212709, 192000, 321321, 341014

dustymc commented 10 months ago

difference in how a report gets at the same piece of data is not intentional.

Then maybe we can focus on one of these, get it happy, and reuse it for the rest instead of starting from scratch a bunch of times. I've got MSB_Mamm_fluid_skin_tag dumping data in a couple ways. It has problems, feel free to just ignore what's there and tell me what you wish was there, make adjustments, however you want to do it to get this one working as it should be. Once you're happy with the data we can work on layout and other reports.

I'm using this as my test search - send a URL if you want us to see something else: https://arctos.database.museum/search.cfm?guid_prefix=MSB%3AMamm&cat_num=%20123123%2C%20346117%2C%20300000%2C%20212709%2C%20192000%2C%20321321%2C%20341014

then..

We're meeting next week and have prioritized the list:

  1. MSB_Mamm_fluid_skin_tag
  2. MSB_Mamm_small_label
  3. MSB_Mamm_large_label
  4. MSB_Mamm_skin_tags

update: just saw that Dusty set up the SQL so will merge and delete one of the MSB Mamm fluid tags....

mkoo commented 10 months ago

Adrienne supplied the best PDF possible -- with measurements! See attached. I am working on formatting for both dry and wet tags now.... MSB_Mamm_reports.pdf

mkoo commented 9 months ago

Jihyun and Daechul will start fixing formatting on the labels, starting in order:

  1. MSB_Mamm_fluid_skin_tag - working on report (https://arctos.database.museum/Reports/reporter.cfm?action=edit&report_id=147)
  2. MSB_Mamm_skin_tags - similar dimensions and format as above but print page is 8x11
  3. MSB_Mamm_small_label - use Narrow box label as format basis
  4. MSB_Mamm_large_label - same as above but different size
Daechul-Jung commented 9 months ago

Self-assigning small vial label: https://arctos.database.museum/Reports/reporter.cfm?action=edit&report_id=167

mkoo commented 9 months ago

@Honghyejeong will work on this: MSB_Mamm_large_label - same as above but different size

AdrienneRaniszewski commented 8 months ago

Hi! Thanks for everybody's help with these. Are any of them ready for me to look over? We've got lots of fluid specimens ready for tags!

mkoo commented 8 months ago

Quick update Formatting is almost complete then we’ll work on the data variables but will need you for testing and feedback

Next week?

sorry for the slow response-- been battling a virus here but I wanted to say the formatting of the labels are done but we need to incoporate the identifiers now (MSB's NKs etc) which will require your testing help!

Let me see if I can review the sql and have you all test with your data instead of NK-less records

Hi, Michelle and Hyejeong.

A few label notes.

For fluid skin tags, I see three versions in the Arctos Report Printer. Only one produces any results, but the formatting is still way off.

The two sizes of vial labels are a little better, but formatting is still off from the examples I sent (label spacing and size mostly) and they’re displaying stuff they shouldn’t and not displaying stuff they should. Mostly identifiers problems, as you mentioned.

And I don’t see the regular skin tag at all.

I see quite a few issues, but don’t really want to type them all out, since much of it is already in the notes and examples I sent. Maybe once the formatting is at least looking good, then we can start testing with our MSB data.

Thanks again for helping with this! We’re looking forward to getting back to printing very soon!!

Sorry this thread is getting so long.... @dustymc can you help with the sql line to get collecting_source ="captive"

From Adrienne's notes: if collecting_source ="captive" display if not then null

@AdrienneRaniszewski I dont understand one of the notes on the labels:

Screenshot 2024-03-14 at 5 25 09 PM

what do you mean "just say tissues etc"? what specific parts should just say "tissues"? likewise with the other values? Now you can try out the small and large vial labels as the sizing and formats were a little off, now fixed, but I need to test with MSB Mamm data! some progress....

dustymc commented 8 months ago

if collecting_source ="captive" display if not then null

case flat.collecting_source when 'captive' then 'captive' else null end collecting_source

thank you everyone! I get errors when I try to produce the large and small vial labels. So I can't comment on how they're coming along.

The fluid tag is looking a little better. lots of spacing issues still though. And it needs to produce a page that's 4x11. The maximum number of tags on a page should be 20. Attached is a screenshot of what they look like now when I attempt to print on our Datamax printer with the 4-inch wide media. Also attached a pdf of what we used to get and need to get again.

Thanks for working on this, everyone!

I’d like to get our labels finished up finally.

I started over with MSB:Bird labels and made several formatting adjustments. As well as a few (probably pretty clunky) adjustments to the info displayed. Parts and collector/preparator numbers, for example. There are still a few things that I have been unable to figure out and would love help with.

  1. Sex symbol in regular weight text, not bold.
  2. If there’s more than one sex, NK, date, location, etc display the most recent one only
  3. If there’s a cleaner way to replace heart, kidney, liver, spleen, lung, muscle, tongue, diaphragm, and/or brain with one instance of “tissue” please feel free to implement that. Otherwise, I’m fine with how it’s working now.
  4. If the locality, collectors, or parts are truncated, I’d love for an ellipsis to be displayed at the end. Not an absolute must though.
  5. Most importantly, we need other institutional catalog numbers displayed. Above the NK & across from the captive info. We need UNLV, USGS, UIMNH, and NMMNH. As well as the Mexican wolf studbook. Any particular record should only have one of these numbers, so they can all be displayed in the same place on the label. We’d like them to print as follows: studbook: 1234 UNLV 1234 USGS 1234 UIMNH 1234 NMMNH 1234

The MSB:Mamm numbers I’ve been using to test are: 100730, 120130, 120131, 142755, 145080, 160001, 160002, 212709, 300000, 321321, 325800, 325801, 330818, 336752, 341014, 346117, 348700, 348701, 349001, 349002, 123456, 234456, 300001, 123123, 23456, 216789, 50001

The report names are “MSB Mamm Small Label” and “MSB Mamm Large Label”

Thank you!!

dustymc commented 1 week ago

started over with MSB:Bird labels

Does this mean that all of my work in https://github.com/ArctosDB/arctos/issues/8079 is gone?? @mkoo this doesn't seem particularly efficient....

Sex symbol

That's thoroughly addressed in the linked issue.

more than one

I'd need an example to address this.

institutional catalog numbers

That's going to be very difficult as long as the data are being entered arbitrarily https://github.com/ArctosDB/arctos/issues/7836

Mexican wolf studbook

That's in a particularly inaccessible form and my efforts to make the data accessible have not been fruitful.

UNLV

That's currently consistent, so easy.

https://github.com/ArctosDB/arctos/issues/7722

Screenshot 2024-11-05 at 09 09 34

https://arctos.database.museum/guid/MVZ:Herp:275710

select formatIdentifierAndIssuedBy(collection_object_id,'https://arctos.database.museum/agent/21311462') from flat where guid='MVZ:Herp:275710';
-----------------------------
 UNLV 7423

The second parameter will accept anything that can be turned into one agent, the identifier is the only guaranteed path but this particular example would work with eg...

arctosprod@arctos>> select formatIdentifierAndIssuedBy(collection_object_id,'UNLV') as UNLV from flat where guid='MVZ:Herp:275710';
   unlv
-----------
 UNLV 7423
AdrienneRaniszewski commented 1 week ago

No, your work is not gone. On the contrary! I just used the ones you made for Andy as a starting point for ours, since the one's that Michelle's students had been working on for us got stuck.

So the bold sex symbol is still being sorted out? We can definitely live with it this way for now.

see MSB 300001 for more than one sex printing

Those institutional catalog numbers were entered consistently, initially. They have recently become a little inconsistent from each other though. We do NEED them on our label, as that is the number we use to match the label to the specimen, which often only has the original catalog number on it. So whatever it takes would be most appreciated. Thanks!

dustymc commented 1 week ago

MSB 300001

arctosprod@arctos>>  select sex,split_part(sex,';',1) firstsex  from flat where guid in ('MSB:Mamm:300001','MSB:Mamm:300002');
    sex | firstsex
------------+------------
 male; male | male
 male | male
(2 rows)

whatever it takes

Consistent data. That will probably remain a struggle as long as https://github.com/ArctosDB/arctos/issues/7836 is an issue, but I can also (more or less, https://github.com/ArctosDB/arctos/issues/8129 ain't helping) expand the 'agent issues type of format...' rules if they can be laid out to avoid the complications and the data can be cleaned up to fit within them. (I was going to say UNLV looks easy, but there are integers, lots of 12822A-type things, and MBM 6415 for some reason - I can still prevent mistyped data, but actually-their-stuff would probably involve some kind of cleanup. And I think the agent is probably grossly overloaded, which might turn out to make the cleanup easier.)
