Agent Split Request - David M. Evans is not the curator of the ROM #7879

Open ewommack opened 2 months ago

ewommack commented 2 months ago

@atrox10 Use this template if you believe an agent represents more than one person or organization.

Agent that represents more than one person or organization https://arctos.database.museum/agent/21258378?deets=true

New Agent I think there was a mistake made at some point. David M. Evans is a UWYMV collector with collected material in the 1970s. David C. Evans is the curator of the ROM (https://evanslab.wordpress.com/). It looks like the MVZ and UAM had loans out to the David C. Evans, and edited David M. Evans to include the wrong information. I'll need to get rid of the info of the address, and a new agent will need to be created and associated with the loans from the other collections

Reason for split Not the same person at all. Help.

Affected Collections MVZ, UAM (who should be contacted at UAM:ES?

Agent change tool For any collection that needs to change to the agent created as part of this split, follw the instructions at How to Batch Update Agents

Please add this issue to the Agents Project.

ok I looked up some old emails from 2015-16 and you're right about the middle initial. I'd rather correct agent https://arctos.database.museum/agent/21258378 and create a new one for UWYMV thx, Beth!

If I mark this David C. Evans https://arctos.database.museum/edit_agent.cfm?agent_id=21346039 as a bad dup of https://arctos.database.museum/edit_agent.cfm?agent_id=21258378 what will happen to the attached pubs in agent 21346039?

stitch seamlessly together or do I need to swap pubs over manually?

You need to swap pubs over manually.

I still say the "merge" process needs some automation....

Not impossible, file an Issue.

ewommack commented 2 months ago

This is probably not the way to handle this type of issue. All of my objects got switched to a new Agent, because @mkoo just updated the agent. I actually had a really hard time finding David M. Evans using the search function while trying to update the catalog records (the only way I was able to do it was to go back to this issue and find the info on what the new agent was called was called). Was there any info in the old Agent Page that I need added to the new Agent for my collection? How do I find that info so I can transfer it?

I would recommend:

  1. Before editing an existing agent -> get in direct contact with any affected collections. (This doesn't mean just responding to an issue and saying "hey I did this, no go fix the stuff in your collection". Instead a back and forth would be really appreciated.
  2. If you are the person who has changed things -> it is your responsibility to contact all of the collections. I made the issue, but I had no control over any of the actions taken in it, so I don't think I can contact UAM:ES, because I can't explain what was done or how the decision was made. If you make the changes, take the responsibility to make the communication.

The second David C. Evans was something one of my students did and the one ID and the pubs are all related to NMMNH specimens. I have updated those and marked the agent as a duplicate.
