switch classification to ASM just for our Myocastor?
No, but you can prefer a classification which has only one (or a few or whatever) taxa in it. This is documented in https://handbook.arctosdb.org/documentation/taxonomy.html#taxon-classification-sources.
Ive had this same issue. Sounds like the only option is to create an entire new classification source if we need to make a single change? What if we agree to change the Arctos source?
I think it would be great to just edit the Arctos classification if everyone is on board. But, just in the case of Myocastor coypus (change it from Myocastoridae to Echymyidae), there are specimens in 23 collections. I am sure most collections don't care that much if it was changed. BUT, the more important part is that we shouldn't expect everyone to agree! How do we best accommodate that?
MVZ mammals has Arctos as its preferred classification. WoRMs is second. I'm usually OK with this setup. We have discussed cloning all of Arctos mammal taxonomy into something called MVZMammal or like that, that I could set as my first choice. I'm not ready to go that route. But, today a situation arose. We have our Myocastor physically in the collection as Myocastorinae in Echymyidae. But, in Arctos, under Arctos taxonomy, it is in Myocastoridae. There is a classification scheme called ASM Mammal Diversity DB that uses Echymyidae. I also am not ready to jump 100% to this classification. Is there any way to switch classification to ASM just for our Myocastor? What's the best solution?
