How To needed - Part subsamples #236

Open Jegelewicz opened 3 years ago

There is scant information about subsamples in our documentation. It would be very helpful if those of you who subsample regularly could add to the relevant documentation. Probably needed in object tracking and loans? @KyndallH @campmlc @ebraker

prompted by this from Norway:

I have taken a tissue-sample from an object and performed a DNA-analysis on it.

  • I want to establish a subsample (tissue-sample) derived from the object, and derived from this I want to establish another subsample (DNA-extract)
  • I want to register where and how the two subsamples are kept (e.g., frozen), and for the DNA-extract I also want to register DNA-concentration
  • I want to register that I did a DNA-analysis on the DNA-extract; some details on protocol, and a link to the resulting DNA-sequence deposited in an external database (e.g., GenBank).
  • Lastly, if possible, I want to do the same as above for 100 samples, in batch-mode

No need to complete below this point - these are reminders for the person working on the update

When the above are complete, notify the Arctos Community of the update.

Documentation should at least not exclude other use cases:

The bulk operations are pretty trivial in batch using partIDs - but I don't think that's been used, let me know if something isn't intuitive.

It should be conveyed that creating the link to GenBank will also create a reciprocal, and that there is no "demo mode" for this.
