Updates for TX2 based on Peters next-rpi branch #46

I cherry picked the commits on Peters branch for the TX2 which are not in master and really need to be since about year ago :). I removed the commits that modify the edison and RPi parts, but I can add them back in if needed. I would like to get this into master since I have actually been using that branch for creating images for quite a while.
