Add more debugging logging to mapApp() #563

Note: some debugging messages are coming up when debug is not called. I'll look into this as well.

More debugging messages added in commit 87bd2c708ddf31948621965493aeec7cce7250da of develop. Unwanted debugging messages upon starting mapApp (without debug) removed in commit 798b7794247d2499af48ca69c041a2750ece6a33 of develop. Closing issue.
