For a project, I needed to set (custom) escape characters. Since I changed this in the Java, I figured it would be good to upload the changes to github, so that the module can be adapted in the app store as well.

Thanks for this pull request. This has a high overlap with changes present in 1.4 which also improves handling of no escape/quote charcter.
