You cannot join a random dungeon when your in a raid group. your not meant to.
@graham79 i have no idee, what differents there are between group, raid, dungeon, random dungeon.. maybe someone can give a link to a wiki entry?? or give a big explain for dummys :-)
1/ You have an option inside worldserver.conf which allow you to be in a raid group and access dungeons for "normal" group and do quests when you are in raid with raid you avoid the limitation of 5 people of a group 1a/ usually group you can do quest, raid is for special dungeons on the official servers 1b/as example with some flags in the code, you can be 10 as a raid group, and do quest and go in dungeons which you should be at 5 maximum
2/ this is what I have fund regarding raid and group: http://wowwiki.wikia.com/wiki/Raid http://wowwiki.wikia.com/wiki/Instances_by_level
I prefer my server to be more "blizzlike". Afterall, where is the fun and skill in completing a five man dungeon with 10 0r 20 players......pointless exorcise IMHO. You might as well Nerf every instance in the game and make every raid and dungeon soloable by a level 10 player.....
it is an option, which as an option that means it can be used by people who wants to use it ( up to you to have a "blizzlike" server :) ) I underline this fact because the function finding dungeons need to take that into account as an information it is not mandatory to do a 5 dungeon at 20 but you can be 6 ;) and have fun

A dungeon/instance is 5 man instance wich can be entered by either a pre-formed group (friends or guild) or by queing in the Random Dungeon Finder in the players User Interface. The random groups are formed by the server and players must have the required requisits to be able to join the que.
A Raid is designed to present bigger harder challenges with better rewards then five man, Can be either 10,25,30,40 players raid groups depending on raid.
Groups...are preformed partys of friends or guild members that can que for specific instances. five man only. Random groups. are formed by the server as players enter the que and fit the level, class requirements of a given group. Raid groups can consist of any class/type but must be of the correct level to enter the instance, raid partys can be 10 man or up to 40, depending on the instance template.
@firelook please paste the line in world.conf that allows you to enter five man instances when in a raid group. I do not believe there is such an option. only option in world conf is allow normal quests to be done while in a raid group and ignore raid group requirements when entering instance.<<<< this ONLY allows players to enter raids when NOT in a raid group.
things like these one : Instance.IgnoreMaxPlayerCount Instance.IgnoreRaid Quests.IgnoreRaid Instance.IgnoreLevel
righto, seems i've been using an older version of world.conf. The version I'm using doesn't have Instance.IgnoreMaxPlayerCount.. This seems to be a recent addition to the world config. I must check the source code and see if it is implemented in the code.
by default the config
