Given that the tests that exist uncovered a bunch of pandas deprecations, increasing the testing coverage of the codebase would be worthwhile (even after Jasper used this code for his paper).

Low priority-- As it turns out, I was reading the coverage output incorrectly, and we have better coverage than I thought (95%+). Things that are not covered:

some unused functions
functions that are executed remotely by ray (called from functions that do have coverage, and thus their output is tested)(
abstract base method does pass So, not actually any lurking untested functionality. Deeming this low priority.
