Having issues running script on CentOS 8

I setup my environment per the requirements and created a new file called sample.php containing:

When I run php sample.php, I just get the output of the file. It doesn't return anything.

do you have a config file holding the configuration options and is this file being loaded?
what is the output of the following shell commands:
```
php -v
php -i
```
Note: make sure to sanitize the output from the second command if necessary.
