New attempt of #257 with requested changes from @ArtOfShred .

Closing #257 in favor of this.

There is still a lot of stuff in the LUIE_ namespace which can be found using the regex \bLUIE_(?!SI_LUIE_\b)\w+. Maybe it would be a good idea to cleanup more of this stuff in the long run.
