Maybe in the future make the dark vision quirk brighten and extend this just a tiny bit. Depends on how feasible that is.
I'd much rather see Dark vision be a pseudo night vision that brightens all darker area's instead of working with this.

Why make this change?To the uninitiated, this is what I'm talking about: (the lit up area around the spessman)
How Does This Help Gameplay?
It doesn't help gameplay its more of an atmosphere change if anything at the cost of being able to see in the dark.
How Does This Help Roleplay?
Maintenance will be spookier and harder to navigate for everyone allowing you to stay properly hidden and concealed in darker area's without much effort. Immersion or something.
