Allow for font options #114

Open GoogleCodeExporter opened 9 years ago

GoogleCodeExporter commented 9 years ago
What steps will reproduce the problem?
No options available for font changes.

What is the expected output? What do you see instead?
I would like for an enhancement feature to change font display
types--specifically to allow for a serif font.

What version of the product are you using? On what operating system?
AndBible 1.5.5
Android 2.3.6

Please provide any additional information below.

OK, now I see there is already some documentation on this
https://code.google.com/p/and-bible/wiki/FontFramework
and SBLGNT fonts here:
http://www.sbl-site.org/educational/BiblicalFonts_FAQ.aspx

However I would love to see this still built into the app!

What more than already covered in FontFramework is suggested for the desired
enhancement?

If SBL_grk and a Sans font could be pre-built into the app for rendering
options that would satisfy what I'm looking for. I think that is what is
outlined in FontFramework--that it could also be specified by the module author
would be fine!

I've enjoyed seeing the SBL_grk bundled with the SBLGNT bible lately!
There is also a new SBL font which includes Greek+Hebrew letters--worth using
for Hebrew bibles? http://www.sbl-site.org/educational/biblicalfonts.aspx

Yesterday I switched to a new phone and reconfigured AndBible. I installed
SBLGNT and did not see the SBL_GRK font installed with the download--indeed it
does not render.
I also do not have an option to delete the SBLGNT bible and reinstall (the
Delete button in the dialog is not clickable), running AndBible 2.0.0

Any ideas, did this get lost in the new 2.0 update?

OK, scratch that, I reset my app data and redownloaded SBLGNT, I got the font
back. Perhaps the error was in my Helium backup and migration of apps.

I am not a Greek or Hebrew expert. Would the use of a custom Hebrew font be
useful? Would the adoption of SBL_GRK for all modules be desirable?

I aim to have good defaults and less complex configurability.

I would love to see SBL_BibLit font added, even as an English default font for
the entire app.
* It renders a pretty good serif font for English translations, it includes
BOTH the characters for Greek and Hebrew.

Again, this font is newly compiled by SBL, and can be found through the link on
Comment #5. Thanks for considering this.
