cheap PoE-cam

test cheap PoE-cam for garage,, might be better to use a super-cheap PoE than to use wifi ??

WARNING!! Absolutely no info in the package, no product name, no manual, no qr-code to scan to get to website,, nothing ;) felt like Sherlock Holmes trying to get to the login (which was admin:123456 )

and to get the right IP (it was setup with fixed IP so was outside my normal ranges so had to create a dummy-range to get into the web-interface in the first-place - but then assigning to dhcp and remove the cloud stuff was basic setup..

tested the cam against a reolink RLC810A (three times the price),,

• and it came surprisingly close in picture quality,,, especially close up,,,
• seems to be a bit more lag/less fluid lin live streaming,, but was not bad at all

tested the cam against a D-Link DCS-8302LH (wifi) (double the price),,

• and it seems to be much more accurate live-stream than the wifi one,, so might outcompete the low-end wifi stuff in this household,,, (wherever PoE is available

finally got an answer by email from the SimiCam support-team on the lack of user guide (asked for it during the frustrating time of not getting into the web-interface,,, the answer is as follows:

so the official manual and instructions for the camera's web-interface for settings to connect to rtsp-stream is in fact a link to an user-generated review of another brand camera with their NVR/app :)

I repeat the warning - - little documentation exist on this,, be prepared to tinker ;)

setup procedure:

1. Reconfigure poe-switch-port to simicam-vlan (192.168.1.x) with POE
2. connect camera to port
3. connect pc to same vlan
4. check UDMP for IP on cam,,
5. use pc to connect to web-interface of camera (use IP)
6. Reconfigure
   • all the cloud stuff,,
   • sntp to ntp.local
   • dns to unraid-ip
   • network enable DHCP
   • mainstream to H264
   • substream to H264 640*360, 5fps
   • disable audio
7. save all and reboot
8. reconfigure vlan on port to NoT
9. check UDMP for new IP, set fixed IP
10. configure Frigate/go2rtc
