J474: Audio distortion when volume above 72% #42

Open jcelerier opened 2 months ago

jcelerier commented 2 months ago

Title says it all, as soon as I put the volume above 72% there is audible distortion. MacMini M2 Pro with Fedora 40.

I'm not using the mac mini speaker itself but a set of speakers connected through the minijack output.

We don't do any DSP on the headphone jack. The issue is most likely that your speakers cannot handle the amplified headphone-level signal output by the 3.5mm jack, and their internal amp is clipping once that signal gets too hot.

hmm, on macOS I can put to 100% without distortion though
