Same problem after update. Using Safari on Macbook. Won't open, same message.
Click on the Report button and save the contents. Attach it to this bug and I can take a look. I'm running macOS Mojave (I develop on it) and not having any problems.

Thank you for replying. Unfortunately I can't get to the Report button because the progam will not open.
I'm referring to the "Report..." button that appears when you attempt to launch the app. That's the macOS crash window -- there should be a stack trace and other information to show where the code crashed.
Here's the report I get: I'm using macOS Mojave version 10.14.2

Ah yes, sorry. I misunderstood........ here it is:
(EDIT: I'm not a coder but this seems to be the problem - 'NSInvalidUnarchiveOperationException' - it's not unzipping properly??? Just a guess.)

I had same issue. I've downloaded older version V1.13.18 and that works normally. I did an automatic update, the crash was immediately upon restart. I had 4 programmes queued to record (but not downloading) when I did the update.

Thanks KevanV - got GIA back for use 👍🏻
Ok... I've automatically updated my version again and same crash as above.
Nothing in my list to download.

It crashed for me without bringing up a dialogue box with the option of getting a report—it just bounced in the Dock a couple of times then closed.
However system.log has the following entry for each time I tried to open it:
Jan 2 09:02:01 DavidsRtinaiMac com.apple.xpc.launchd[1] (com.ascoware.getiPlayerAutomator.19148[54570]): Service exited due to SIGABRT
I too have had the same problem after the upgrade. I have found however that if I delete the file history.gia from ~user/Library/Application Support/Get iPlayer Automator then I can then open the program and it appears to run fine. I am not sure what the file does (download history appears to be contained in file download_history) but it is recreated at startup and the program is now working for me fine on the new version. Hope this helps out others.
That fix worked for me as well.
Yes, that fix did the trick. Many thanks to j-goodwin!
I've been having the same issue as other users but this fix has also worked for me. Thanks j-goodwin!
Many thanks to j-goodwin; I'm pleased your fix is working for others. Sadly I cannot find the files you mention, they appear to be missing. My HardDrive file structure seems to be messed up so I cannot use your fix. ☹️
SOLOSAIR - Chances are that your ~Library folder is hidden by the system. Try the following to temporarily unhide it:
Method 1: From the Finder, select the Go menu at top of the screen, and choose Go to Folder. In the window that opens, enter ~/Library, and click Go.
Method 2: Go to the Finder (or desktop). Hold the Option key on your keyboard, and click the Go menu at the top of the screen. With the Go menu open, you'll notice that pressing and releasing Option will display or hide the Library choice in this menu. Select Library from the Go menu (while holding down Option) to access the hidden folder.
Many thanks Mistress MB - I was a little confused at first with the website saying 3.18 and the app saying Version 1.14 - but launch went ok and I got confirmation that I'm using the newest version available. Thanks again MistressMB and j-goodwin. Much gratitude to skovatch for continuing to provide us with such a good and important app.
(Edit: I'll leave skovatch to close thread in case he wants to add anything.)
Hi SOLOSAIR, glad you are now working. I believe 3.18 is the version of get_iplayer and v1.14 is the version of Get-Iplayer-Automator. GIA uses get_iplayer to actually get the files.
@j-goodwin thanks for the tip! That tells me where to start looking. This is something I should be able to fix for the next person that encounters it. ~history.gia is used to make it easier for the application to show the download history in the UI. It's basically a copy of the download_history that get_iplayer maintains.~ Edit: No, this file is an archived version of an array of new programs that were just added to BBC in the last day. You can see it with "Show New Programs".
That code should be rewritten at some point, because that seems like an unnecessary step, but not right now. :-)
For those of you still crashing and haven't done the workaround shown above, could you please attach your history.gia file? I have a fix but would feel better about releasing it if I can test it with a bad history archive.
Hi @skovatch. I took a copy of the file before I deleted it and a copy of it is attached. Thanks again for your work on GIA. history.gia.old.zip
@j-goodwin OK, I posted a new release that should address this, but I will test to be sure.
With the new release you'll now get an error in the system console if this happens, but it won't crash, and the 'new program history' will be empty, if you were using that feature. The file gets rewritten anyway, so it's a short-term problem.
Unfortunately you might have to get the new version directly, since the old version is crashing.
Sorry Scott, could you please point me in the direction to download the new version, it's been ages and I've forgotten where it's located.
Many thanks
Rock
