Feature Request - Subtitles Without Captions for HoH #271

First of all, I think Get iPlayer Automator is brilliant. My thanks to all for their hard work.

The feature to 'Embed Subtitles in Downloaded Video' is excellent, but I find the captions for hard of hearing (HoH) annoying. (If you're wondering why I'm using subtitles at all, well, it's because broadcasters can't mix sound these days and some assistance in hearing dialogues is often required.) Would it be possible to add a further option to 'Exclude Captions for HoH'? I know that this would involve stripping text out from the SRT file 'on the fly', but the subtitles in BBC programmes are usually well structured (well, sometimes not!), so it shouldn't be such a massive challenge for someone...

Not urgent, not horribly important, just a 'nice to have'!

Thank you.

You could use the Jubler app to edit out the HoH subtitles from the srt file manually. Would require using the Subler app to merge in the srt file afterwards, like we did before the embed subtitles in video option was available in GiA.

Doing it manually would give you a feel for, if there was a way to automate the process in a new GiA option.

Thanks, hugofalkman. I do edit subs manually at the moment, using an ancient macOS version of SubtitleEdit and then Subler. It's a bit of a chore though, especially for a long series!
