Ascoware / get-iplayer-automator

The goal of Get iPlayer Automator is to allow iTunes and your Mac to become the hub for your British Television experience regardless of where in the world you are. Currently, Get iPlayer Automator allows you to download and watch BBC and ITV shows on your Mac. Series-Link/PVR functionality ensures you will never miss your favourite shows. Programmes are fully tagged and added to iTunes automatically upon completion. It is simple and easy to use, and runs on any machine running Mac OS X 10.7 or later. And since the shows are in iTunes, it is extremely easy to transfer them to your iPod, iPhone, or Apple TV allowing you to enjoy your shows on the go or on your television.

Start of downloading slow for BBC #278

The starting of each download for BBC is rather slow. Is there a settings alternative that would avoid most of the false starts with 403, 404, and 500 messages (see attached log)? (I do want to keep the embedded subtitles option.)

Some, but not all, of the errors should go away with a get_iplayer update. The 403's in particular are specifically called out in the release notes.

There's not much that can be done about the 404s on GiA's part. You will likely see those in a command-line get_iplayer download as well.

Also 1.18.2 still has the 403 errors. See attached log.

Btw I can't find anything in the get_iplayer release notes about 403 errors: https://github.com/get-iplayer/get_iplayer/wiki/release320to329#release325 .

Ah, I might have been thinking of this, which was fixed in 3.23.

If you're outside the UK, I'm not sure I can help there. As the log notes, if you still get the download it's not an issue. I too see 404's and 403's with my smart DNS service, but I don't think I've ever had a show completely fail on me.

I first started having problems with slow BBC starting times yesterday (28.2). High Sierra, GIA 1.17.1 and 1.18.2. Downie doesn't have these issues or not as badly. I haven't changed anything.
