Manu greets you after war starts, even if you've never met him #7

I have QFG3 1.0 and I've added the 1.3.1A patch. I'm playing as a Wizard, in ScummVM 2.1.2.

To reproduce: Start a new game (I'm playing as Wizard). Do not visit the East Jungle (Waterfall) screen. As a result, you won't find Manu in a cage.

Retrieve the Spear/Drum and attend the failed peace conference. Now visit the jungle.

Actual: Manu will greet you as soon as you enter the west jungle screen (with the Heart tree), saying, "Man-friend! Manu very happy to see man-friend." Expected: Manu should not greet you in the jungle until you've freed him from the cage once.

In the attached save, go east one screen to the west jungle. Manu will greet you immediately, but he's not supposed to show up yet.

Hi again,

I'm familiar with this situation and believe it's actually by design. Since Manu is a plot-critical character, if you never meet him it would result in a dead end when you enter the mirror room in the lost city. The developers, for whatever reason, coded it so that Manu must meet you on the first jungle screen after the conference (and thus you're never able to heads to the waterfall screen).

I'm pretty sure at least in v1.0 Manu won't greet you like this after the conference if you haven't met him. Instead, you have to wander over to the East Jungle, where you'll find the cage, then Manu will wander off, and then shortly afterward you'll see Manu again and initiate the endgame.

I was wrong! I went back and replayed v1.0 in ScummVM 2.1.2 and this bug occurs there.

I guess it would be nice to fix this bug, by having you auto-find Manu in a cage instead of having him auto-greet you. Then he could invite you back to his village from there, or in a subsequent meeting.

So I'll leave this bug open, but I agree that it's not a regression from v1.0.

I think it's the game designers trying to be nice too - it would have been a sure dead end that (given the time lapse) would probably have been unrecoverable. I'd suggest closing this off.

I don't understand that point. Couldn't you just meet Manu in a cage after the war starts? He's not at all connected to the rest of the war plot.
