Updates from Inga (15 September 2020):

• MSc Teaching grads to be invited to student info events [EH] Since this last meeting, Michael Jack was asked (and agreed) at a staff meeting to organise careers events. I told him the Equity and Diversity Committee was interested in having input into the teaching event in particular. I also sent him documents from the previous events, including the "BSc-only" event (which was the most diverse of previous careers events)
• Cultural diversity stocktake of PHSI 426 [IS,TS] Terry and I have talked about doing this, but it will need to be after teaching eases off.
• McAllister et al: Invite to give talk, joint with Maths & Stats [IS] I asked Matt Parry about this, which he thought was a good idea but said Tara McAllister was on parental leave. Geology (Olivia Traux) ended up inviting Dan Hikaroa to talk on the paper via Zoom as part of their DiversiTea initiative, and Sophie Briggs invited physics along (via Ashton). Attendees from physics were: Inga Smith, Maddy Cormack, Pete Russell, Keeta Chapman-Smith, Richard Blaikie. Matt Parry attended from maths and stats, and there were 6 geologists in the host room. The talk was very informative on the background context to the paper, and the problems of getting the data.

Updates from Esther (15 September 2020):

• IOP International Grant - the deadline was 31 August 2020, which was too close. I agree with Ashton that we keep this in mind for next year.

• Local teachers: Chris Geddes (Taieri College - cgeddes@taieri.school.nz) is a recent graduate of the Otago MTchgLn programme, Kussi Hurtado (OGHS - hst@otagogirls.school.nz) trained in Wellington. There is also Jesse Farry (King's - jf@kingshigh.school.nz) but I'm not sure where he trained.

• I've had a look at the Agnes Blakie material but have not had a chance to think about it.

I sent an updated proposal for Agnes Blakie to Craig. We then learned that the previous proposal is still being considered. So right now we wait to hear about that, before targeting the new location.
