Yes, and I believe he had been doing that for very long time without let you know first, and I saw the guy modify your plugin and add few GUI and make 8X more than your price I feel bad for it, so I opened this issue to try make sure that you got noticed.

I really appreciate the help you all have gone through looking out for the plugin. I have spoken to Handy, and he has rejected all claims - saying that it’s his plugin and it’s different from mine. However, I quote from him: “ In order to be compatible with historical data, some of my functions are inevitably the same as before.” which seems to me that he’s using my algorithm for some. He also showed me screenshots of CompanionsPlus which had a few renamed class file but majority looks like the same as Companions.

I don’t think he has any intentions of bringing the $40 resource down; however, he had made a pull request with some changes (that somehow I can’t see, so I can’t approve) - he has also claimed that my code was messy, and yeah, Companions has quite legacy code because it was done years ago and has only received a few refactors since.

Very funny that how he responded, this guy is a shame of Chinese Minecraft community and open source community, he used to be a Moderator for MCBBS.net community and use his power and rights to selling these not authorized content on Chinese market, and I believe there are many people had been paid for his "own work", but due MCBBS.net is dead from Jan 2024, I believe he lost his biggest income source, however please keep this issue open so more people can figure out what happened here.

If I been start a new project from 0 to 1, I will never describe my work as completely redesigned, and this is the issue related to original copyright and related to how many Add-on work had been created in the original work, so let just make it simple, you did use this repo's owner code, and you do whatever work after that and you didn't let the original author know that, and you start selling the resources(there is some part included the original author work like you said as redesign) for 8 times price compared than original resource, this is not very good.

This was his reply to me. I’d like to attach my reply: There’s nothing stopping you from modifying the code and using it for your own server. However, there is something wrong if you modify the code, and then start selling it without credits.

You keep saying it’s a non forked version but you keep using words like “upgrade”, “some functions are inevitably the same”, etc.

I sincerely do apologize and do regret with a heavy heart that Companions was abandoned. That is why, I chose to open source it so people could use it for free if needed. Companions was a project that I put a lot of effort in, and I still regret every single day that I chose to abandon it. I was and am still in a difficult time in life, and Companions’ legacy codes was demotivating me to continue and again I apologize if any servers lacked updates due to me.

I might make a totally refactored Companions version in the future.

No! Why? Because it's copyright violation, so very obviously in this world lot people can do it but they choose not to.

I am also very happy to see that there’re people still supporting this plugin and it makes me very happy honestly. Making development projects have been my passion and the only reason why Companions was a paid plugin was because I was testing out premium plugins on Spigot. Other than that, it gives me great pleasure to see when my development projects are being used for everyone and I usually do it for free.

Give me some time to think about rebuilding Companions from the ground up. If I do - it’ll be free for all previous buyers and might not even end up as a premium plugin this time. It’s honestly just my passion to share my work with others and monetary gain isn’t on my mind.
