An idea to try.
In pipelines, add a SOLR field allTaxonID containing the taxonID value and all higher taxonIDs.
allTaxonID
Replace internal lft/rgt search with allTaxonID:taxonID. This will remove the need to fetch lft/rgt from namematching.
allTaxonID:taxonID
Species counts for autocomplete will also use this facet.
