Individual looks take a long time. This is a problem where responsiveness preferred. A batch service will initially be used by:

BIE species pages. Can send >100 requests to the collectory and each can take >0.5s to respond.
BIE collectory indexing. Taking near an hour to finish instead of a few minutes.
