2023-2024 Data Mobilisation - Native Bees

Thousands of native bees specimens across the Swan Coastal Plain representing over 200 species, and subsequently over the last three years have conducted systematic native bee biodiversity surveys for DBCA in the jarrah forest, again collecting thousands of specimens, representing over 200 species. This collection effort is unprecedented in the southwest Western Australian biodiversity hotspot.

Initial mtg held. Approximately 10-20K records to be supplied Some will have associated images.

Kit to provide sample spreadsheets and image/occurrence relationships.

ALA already has 499 records for Kit's Bee data. Mobilisation to be used for digitising further records in TMAG database.

Mtg 16/10/2023 has been set up with TMAG on to discuss details re any support that is needed.

Meeting 16/10/2023

• Native Bee data for mobilisation to be entered into WA Museum DB and long term will be part of regular WA Museum uploads - dr348
• An extract of some initial data entry by KP will be provided to us to QA and iron out any problems.
• Likely images are to be provided also at some stage, but exactly how is not quite clear.
• WA Museum is due to transition to EMU in January so we will have to check that the data doesn't change in the transition.

Images

• WA Museum also indicated that they have a backlog of images for existing data in ALA
• Unsure as yet if the images are going to be loaded into EMU, so will need to confirm that before doing anything with images for the backlog or Bee data.

Data collated to date in WA:

• two boxes of Megachile and 2 further boxes finalised soon

• currently working on a diversity of bees collected from a critically endangered plant in the goldfields

• Each one has to have:

  • the label checked
  • cut to shape as WAM
  • data entered in spreadsheets
  • WAM catalogue number entered.

• xx records out of this first pass. Spreadsheet of initial data will be sent when this batch is complete.

• Data format may change with the move to EMU but checking for any glaring problems first is worthwhile.

• To date, the first 469 records digitised have been included with WAM load in February
