World biomes layer to support Ecosystems Services reports #96

Re-visiting this issue: I visited Robert Costanza at ANU in 2014 to discuss what we may be able to do in the ALA to support his work on Ecosystems Services, see Costanza, R., R. de Groot, P. Sutton, S. van der Ploeg, S. Anderson, I. Kubiszewski, S. Farber, and R. K. Turner. 2014. Changes in the global value of ecosystem services. Global Environmental Change 26:152-158.

I started chasing a world biome map independently, but couldn't find the one that he used in the above paper. Those available contained either more or less biomes. Robert has a research assistant in Adelaide that does his GIS work, so we may need to go there to get it - and the benefit would be alighnment and sync.

The idea is that once we have a world biome layer as a base, and the $/Ha values for each of the biomes in a table, we have the ability to very quickly calculate the total $ ecosystems services value for any defined area. This would initially be another line in the Area Reports, with a link to a table that would state the area of each biome, the percentage area, the $value, the %$ value and the total. We would need a way of editing/updating the values in the table, or even better, maintaining a log of the changes in $/Ha values over time.

Robert has suggested that slider bars on the $/Ha values for each of the biomes would be nice. I'll create a Spatial Hub issue.

We need a map with the following classification:

MARINE Open Ocean
Coastal
Estuaries Seagrass/Algae Beds Coral Reefs Shelf
TERRESTRIAL Forest
Tropical Temperate/Boreal Grass/Rangelands
Wetlands
Tidal Marsh/Mangroves Swamps/Floodplains Lakes/Rivers
Desert
Tundra
Ice/Rock
Cropland
Urban

Possibilities:

WWF probably. https://askabiologist.asu.edu/explore/biomes https://atlas-for-the-end-of-the-world.com/world_maps/world_maps_biomes.html https://c402277.ssl.cf1.rackcdn.com/publications/347/files/original/Ecoregions_Map.pdf (chase original) ...heaps but none correspond exactly.
