  1. Change text in footer Seasonal Calendars (as is) Intellectual Property (add these words on a new line) (remove the (c) Atlas of Living Australia)

Add this following slightly new text: The material in the seasonal calendars may be protected by copyright laws and may be used as permitted under the Copyright Act 1968 or in accordance with licences or notices/labels granted by the copyright owner and/or Indigenous knowledge holder(s). Even though the material exists in a digital context on this site, it is important to respect and acknowledge the community and/or cultural context within which it was created and how it can be used and shared. The material in the seasonal calendars may also include Indigenous cultural and intellectual property (ICIP) which is the cultural heritage of Indigenous people which comprises all objects, sites and knowledge, the nature or use of which has been transmitted or continues to be transmitted from generation to generation, and which is regarded as pertaining to a particular Indigenous group or its territory. The heritage of an Indigenous people is a living one and includes objects, knowledge and literary and artistic works which may be created in the future based on that heritage. Users of this website acknowledge that Indigenous people have the right to control, own and maintain their ICIP in accordance with Article 31 of the Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples.
Terms of use for the Atlas of Living Australia and its content are provided here. (add hyperlink to http://www.ala.org.au/about-the-atlas/terms-of-use/

  1. On the Home page can you add the following text This doesnt have to go in the footer, but perhaps as another band just above the footer (eg in a a light light grey).

Important Background to Site This is a test site where we are developing with Indigenous knowledge holders and researchers an information platform that is useful for a two-way sharing of Indigenous seasonal ecological knowledge, including bio-cultural indicators, use and management practices and cultural context. It is an attempt to bridge different knowledge systems and aims to respect and recognise the value of Indigenous knowledge and give prominence to it along side western science biodiversity knowledge.

The platform is still at a prototype stage as we work out and improve design and interface features, but also the connectivity and visualization of different types of information and data.

It is important that each indigenous seasonal calendar is seen in context - the context or purpose for which it was created and operates, as well as how Indigenous knowledge holders want it acknowledged and used, so as to ensure that the calendar's cultural integrity is maintained and is not misinterpreted or misused. Therefore it is important to read and respect the About section of a calendar and to engage directly with the owners of the calendar to understand more.

This platform forms part of a broader collaborative program of work by the ALA and partners regarding Indigenous Ecological Knowledge - see http://www.ala.org.au/ala-and-indigenous-ecological-knowledge-iek/.

Your feedback and interest in participating is very much welcome and encouraged - please contact Stephanie. Or just login and have a play and let us know what you want think. Share any ideas on where we can improve.

Areas for further development of the information platform include: optional circular representation of a calendar such as the Larrakia calendar (add hyperlink http://www.larrakia.csiro.au); a map on the Home page so can see where the different calendars are from; information connected to other parts of the ALA (eg Species Profile pages); more structured administration function such as levels of access and editing, together with document management; a suite of traditional knowledge labels/notices that attach to information fields and media files.

This needs to be addressed in the visualisation sprint.
