Catastrophic graphics problem freezes entire computer #137

What steps will reproduce the problem?

1: Play any game

What is the expected output? What do you see instead?

The expected output is: Functional gameplay

But instead I see: An f'd up screen with green stripes all over. (It's worse
than it sounds).

What version of the product are you using? What build? What plugins?

I use version: 1.0.4

I use r45 (r46 gives me the same problem, with the same settings as r45)

I use the following plugins:

I use all the original plugins, with the exception of the DrkPVR. My computer
can't handle SSE2, and this version of DrkPVR is very new, but it can work with
SSE1 computers.

On what kind of system?

My system specifications are as follows:

Windows XP Home 32-bit SP3
Single-core AMD Athlon XP 2400+ @ 2.00Ghz w/ MMX(+), 3DNow!(+), SSE1
512MB DDR SDRAM @ 166MHz 2.5-3-3-7
64MB GeForce4 MX Integrated GPU GPU Clock @ 199MHz Memory Clock @ 334MHz

Please provide any additional information below:

All drivers are most recent versions, and my system is not jailbroken or
anything of the sort. I just want to play Sonic Adventure 2, and I can't even
get past the first level because of this problem. The problem is very slightly
different each time I play, but it always causes a system-wide crash, and I am
forced to hold the power button until the computer shuts down. I always occurs
early in the game, and the farthest I've ever gone was halfway through the BIG
FOOT battle on hero mode. I am a computer prodigy (and 15 years old), so don't
be afraid to talk in geeky computer terms.

I have created a video on youtube which shows exactly what I am talking about.
It shows what the error looks like, and how I get to the error.

Your computer is way too under-powered to try and run this. Frankly it's no
wonder you get lock ups.

Try with a NOSSE2 build of drkPVR.

I already am. It's the only thing that actually gets the game to start up. If
I'm not using that plugin, the program exits before the main screen even loads
up.

I've been noticing this problem on Runescape, and its never done this to me
before. My little brother experienced the same problem while playing Toontown.
I also experienced this problem while doing some graphic design on Blender.
I'm starting to this that it's my DirectX. I updated that thing a lot, but it
hasn't helped. I'm thinking that I may have updated too much. Should I
uninstall and reinstall?

Frankly, I'm just glad that my 2.00Ghz single-core processor and GeForce4 MX
graphics card can even handle this game. I can actually play at about 60%
speed, which seems very nice for a computer that hasn't been overclocked.

Then it's probably a problem with the computer itself, and not the emulator. In
that case, this would be more suited to a forum than an Issue tracker.

you're computers capabilities are well below the level required for this and
any 4th gen console.

This is definitely not an emulator issue but rather either the CPU or the GPU
overheating (or dying). An emulator of this caliber puts too much strain to
older systems.
