Removed backward-compatibility code #961

The client needlessly has all backward-compatible code that date all the way to the beginning, it is worthless for the most part and some of it doesn't even work at all on older servers (impossible to talk in IC if the server is too old despite all the legacy code for it)

This branch aims to remove all of that and then some.

Note: This probably should only be merged or added for the next major version rather than the upcoming one.

Will re-introduce at a later time. For now, some maintenance of the code will take place.
