Aim: to compare and rank different DWI and T1 registration tools

Deep dive into the various tools available to register (and transform) DWI and T1 images.

Registration tools/algorithms to consider:

• FSL (epi_reg, flirt, fnirt)
• ANTs (several options)
• ConnectomeBids approach (bespoke method)
• MRtrix3 (mrregister)

Considerations

Assessing the quality of alignment

• Visual inspection
• Quantification of alignment: Dice coefficient, Jaccard index

Test conditions

• Data source
  • High-quality research data (eg: Human Connectome Project)
  • Clinical datasets (healthy participants, patients with pathology)
• DWI image type
  • Mean B0, Mean DWI, FA
• Specs for each algorithm
  • Mask vs no mask, presence/absence of additional inputs

• reach out to mrtrix3 community to get various registration methods that they use?

Might be a good student project. But the large body of work probably doesn't justify the incremental gain in knowledge...
