Revit IFC export Roofs volume #393

Revit cannot properly export the volumes of slanted roofs to IFC. When you export a slanted roof to IFC, several sub-roofs are created. But in the Base Quantations of these sub-roofs the quantities of the main roof are shown. This leads to large errors in the quantities for material passports and such.

I'll file an item for this specific issue, that when splitting an entity on export, the split items should not inherit calculated values such as surface area and volume.

I think we have to conclude that Revit is not yet far enough to calculate volumes properly. After a little more research I find out that only IfcSlabs get a Volume and IfcRoofs don't. I don't think this is desirable at all, but okay. So you need the IfcSlabs to retrieve a vulume from a roof. However, as soon as an opening is made or when a roof is not exactly symmetrical, the sub-components (IfcSlabs) disappear from the roof. This leaves a roof that has no idea what its volume is. I notice that software packages such as Solibri and BIMvision can calculate the volume of that roof with their built-in tools.

Hi Jeffrey,

I think it was in Rvt 2020. I checked the model in Solibri, BIMviosion and BIMCollabZOOM. I did fount a solution. When i export the roof as a IfcSlab.ROOF tha area is correct.
