Install Jetpack - takes you to WordPress.com flow, not a place to install on .org sites #8994

Steps to replicate:

  1. Visit https://jetpack.com/about/
  2. navigate to the bottom of the page
  3. There is a link on "Ready to give Jetpack a try? Install the latest version here." https://wordpress.com/jetpack/connect/store
  4. This page has Jetpack.com plans for purchase and it is very confusing, I cannot see any way to install Jetpack.

What I expected: Something that would allow me to download Jetpack so I can install the plugin, or an instructions page showing me the different methods to do so.

What happened instead: I was taken to a purchase page that did not allow me to install Jetpack.

Similar issue. Tacking onto this issue because this is a set-up/onboarding issue.

I'm setting up Jetpack for a new site. This site requires a new wordpress.com account. It seems impossible to add the site to a new wordpress account through the Jetpack set up process.

I reach this screen:

Adding the site to the right hand column and pressing continue returns me to this screen (email address removed):

Clicking sign-up in the top right of that screen returns me to the first screen.

The options appear to be:

1) Create a blog on wordpress.com, or 2) Try to sign up to wordpress.com without creating a blog but be forced to create a blog anyway.

This is a bad user experience.

@VR51 Thanks for the feedback. Your issue is different from the original report since it happens on WordPress.com, but it's valid nonetheless.

You are indeed getting a custom sign up flow because the email address used by your local admin user on the site is already used with an existing WordPress.com account. Since you know your email address, know that you have an account with us with that email address, we don't offer you to create a new account; we offer you to log in with that existing account.

I realize it is not always ideal though, it would be nice to have that option below the log in form maybe: "Create a new account" or something like that, linking to this page: https://wordpress.com/start/jetpack/jetpack-user

What do you think about the suggestion? If you think we could go in that direction, I can create a brand new issue here to suggest this addition to WordPress.com: github.com/Automattic/wp-calypso/issues

@jeherve the option to create a new account is definitely a needed feature.

This appears to be a recent issue, though. I recall in the past I could create a new account even when the admin email address is already associated with a wordpress.com account. Today, the new account sign-up process failed when navigated through Jetpack.

Following the Akismet sign-up UI route through the Akismet plugin I was able to create a wordpress.com account, and that was without the 'get your site address' hassle too.

Please do move this to a new issue if you feel it is best. Thank you @jeherve.

👍 I created an issue here to keep track of this: https://github.com/Automattic/wp-calypso/issues/24127
