What the listener said:

I was just listening to a 2hour podcast and at about 1hr10min it just skipped back to the beginning. Yet the progress bar still showed that the episode was at 1:10!?

It happened when they played the Biblical Series: Genesis 1 - Chaos & Order episode.

What has been done so far

• Disabled Intelligent Playback Resumption
• Noticed this happens on Bluetooth and over phone speakers

the unexpected skip back is happening during playback after it has been playing for a while. Last it happened I had paused the episode and resumed much later but the skip back occurred after it had been playing for over 10 minutes. It doesn’t skip back repeatedly, so not “stuttering “ per se. On one skip back seemed to be over 1.5 minutes back. It was quite a ways.

It is also possible that it only occurs during episodes I have paused and resumed at some point. But I do that quite a lot as I move through my day. I’m trying to pay attention if it ever happens if I play a pod straight through. Not confident on this however.

This happens with all podcasts, with ads and without. It only happens when streaming. It happens with podcasts that playback starts and stops through , but have also noticed this on podcasts that have played straight through from the beginning.

No ad blockers or network services that could be causing issues. Issues happens on Wi-Fi and on cellular.

The occurrence that occurred before they sent logs — playback was on phone's speakers, episode was being streamed over Wi-Fi, intelligent playback was off.

Skip-back to about 34:17 (9:39 remaining) from about 34:36. So about 20 seconds.

Truncated about 26 seconds before end. Reloaded podcast- scrolled forward to skip back time(34:17) and now it has 10:04 remaining. So about 25 seconds difference. (Times are all approximate)

Yes I think this is the only podcast and I believe it is with ads inserted. It does happen with downloaded episodes. I notice the skips even if I don't resume the podcast and listen straight through, I believe.

In this case, the user confirmed that the podcasts affected have ads, but the issue also is happening for them with downloaded podcasts. It is specific to Spreaker Podcasts (e.g. https://www.spreaker.com/user/17058220/the-m-a-s-h-up-glop)

User noticed it happening when using Pocket Casts via Bluetooth in a car, but it does not happen when the episode is downloaded

Occasionally when I’m listening to an episode of a podcast, an episode will skip forward on its own, completely cutting out certain parts of the episode. And it’s not me accidentally hitting the fast forward button either, because if I rewind it still skips forward at the exact same point in the episode every time. And it will happen whether it’s an episode I’ve downloaded or am just streaming. Anyone have a fix for this?

I do not have a vpn or firewall on my phone and no ad blocker on my wifi. Also, the problem happens whether I am on wifi or using my phone data.

Pocket Casts randomly rewinds after resuming from a pause in iOS app when casting to an external device via Apple Air Play. It only happens if I pause for a longer time and the Air Play connection disconnects and I reconnect to resume the podcast. I don't have Intelligent Resume enabled, but it occurs regardless of that setting. It rewinds more than 30 minutes typically. If I resume the podcast before the Air Play connection ends, there are no rewind issues.

I was listening to the This week in Google podcast will the title Stupid Dove Nests. I was at least 1 hour into the podcast. I parked out for at least 30 minutes and the fair Play connection timed out. When I resumed the podcast episode had rewinded to 7:27.

Certain podcasts routinely skip huge chunks or jump backwards. Seems to be an issue with the actual file upload itself.

I was a subscriber to pocket casts plus since 2018 and have listened to over 140 days of podcasts on the app since then. It has a horrible skipping problem in every episode you listen to (downloaded or not) where it’ll skip back to a previous part of the episode. I’ve had this issue for over a year and a half without any fixes. Doesn’t happen on Spotify or other podcast players, so I’ve cancelled my subscription and couldn’t be happier.

In latest versions of the app I've encountered a weird problem: when playing a podcast, it'll sometimes jump back to earlier in the podcast -- like 15 min or so. Then I have to drag the cursor around to try to find where I left off. Love the app otherwise.

I’ve been having this issue on Pocket Casts for iOS the past couple months. I’ll be listening to a podcast and randomly it will skip back about 1 minute and play a section I’ve already heard. I have no idea how to fix it and often it means the podcast will end before it is actually over. The issue does not occur when I am listening offline. Any ideas on how I can fix this? I am on version 7.49.0.3.

For the past few weeks anytime I stop a podcast and come back to it. It’s much further ahead than when I stopped. This includes when I leave the app and when j pause it. I’m up to date on the app updates. It’s really really frustrating to have to skip back all the time. Can you let me know is this a a common issue?

This happens to me all the time and it’s been happening for over a year. I’m finally getting frustrated enough with it to write it because now it will do it five or six times during a 2 hour episode, downloaded or not and all different kinds of podcasts. I am on iOS (currently 17.2.1) and am running the latest Pocketcasts (7.5.3.1).

I often have podcasts just back 10-15 seconds and play the same section again. This is happening with my hands off the phone or not touching my headphones

I moved to this because I didn’t like the updates on the Apple podcast app. This is good and you can make changes to suit how you listen. But quite often it jumps back 10 seconds or so and if this happens a few times in one podcast you end up missing the end.

This is a great app but recently there have been so many issues with podcasts skipping ahead a minute and then cutting the episode off before the end- not sure what’s causing this but surely something which could be fixed easily. I’ve checked the episodes on other apps and no issues there so must be the app

I just am able to download it if it skips/rewinds to get rid of the skip/rewind. I don't download episodes though I stream them, so the issue is probably carrying on, unfortunately

This app used to be a favourite of mine. So much so I’m still using it in the hope they will finally get round to fixing a known issue where the audio will randomly skip back 20 seconds or so multiple time per podcast. It’s infuriating and I’m sick of it. Every update I hope it will be fixed but it’s just not happening. Ready to move to overcast or some other player.

Playback Skipping but otherwise good

I’ve been using Pocket Casts for years and overall it is a good app. However i often experience an issue where the playback skips ahead a minute or 2 and then cuts the end off by the same amount. I thought this might be a problem caused at source but it happens on different podcasts so it must be a bug on the app itself.

If I use the skip fwd/bk buttons while listening to a podcast with ads then later it involuntarily skips back on its own once or more and it effectively cuts off the end of the episode? It happens to me nearly every time.

This issue was occurring for all podcasts, although I have found that downloading the episode beforehand seems to eliminate the issue. Ideally this would not be necessary so I hope y'all can fix it but appreciate you reaching out.
