RTL support? (OS X, too) #19

Open kwonye opened 8 years ago

From a user:

I use simplenote on Mac and iOS. Both systems have native support for rtl (right to left) languages, In my case it's Arabic. Simplenote on both systems doesn't keep the text on the right as it should be for a rtl text. I could set the direction to rtl from the menu (in iOS) but it gets back to the left side after leaving the app. On Mac it’s not possible to set the note to RTL direction. I hope it’s a bug that could fixed. I really like the app, this is the only reason i didn’t fully switch to Simplenote.

Hopefully this could be fixed, for the benefit of right-to-left languages speakers.

Please, please, do support the Arabic language. All the text in Arabic has a left-to-right writing direction.

Please do support RTL (Right to left) language alignment for Arabic.. It is not that difficult for Simplenote to fix it..

A user reported the RTL support in the iOS app isn't working for the body of the note in 3495630-zen.

I've tested this with the app version 4.27. If the app language is Hebrew, the notes in Hebrew appear correctly in RTL for both title and the body.

But if the app language is in English, the notes in the body are not in RTL.

Is this the expected behavior, @jleandroperez?

jleandroperez commented 3 years ago

@reginabally I'll take a look! would it be possible to check with the user what's the keyboard they're using?

RTL is usually respected when the phone itself is all setup in such RTL language, which appears not to be the case, because of the Navigation Bar's orientation.

Thanks in advance!!

@jleandroperez Thanks for taking a look!

would it be possible to check with the user what's the keyboard they're using?

I've asked the user and waiting for their reply. In my test result above, I used the Hebrew keyboard that's built-in on iOS for both cases.

The user also mentioned their phone language is in English but the other apps are able to recognize the Hebrew text and display it in RTL.

Arabic is the language of the device. When I changed the language to English. English has been transformed into the right writing method, from left to right. But there was a problem with writing in Arabic and it was written from left to right, but what is right is that it is from right to left.

The problem with the application is that he cannot distinguish between the way languages are written. If the language of a device is English and you want to write a note in another language you will write like English from left to right. The app cannot differentiate between the correct directions of that language.

Please fix that problem.

Any updates on the RTL support? The app on iPadOS and iOS follows the system language, if the system is in English it will only write LTR regardless of the input language.

mdrockwell commented 1 year ago

The language of the application is Arabic because most of the articles I write in Arabic, my request that the alignment be added according to the language of writing and not according to the language of the program.

I'm having an issue with the Windows/Desktop version as the Arabic text's direction is displayed correctly but when moving right or left using the keyboard arrows every direction is reversed.

Report from Forum:

There is a problem with the direction of languages in the application, as when you convert the language of the application to English, all the direction of the languages moves to the left, also when you convert the language of the application to Arabic, the direction of all languages turns to the right. I’m using ios, this issue since 2021
