Boardwalk + Cubic: Blog Posts block broken if set to display featured images

Steps to replicate

1) Make sure at least two of the three most recent posts on the site have featured images. 2) Add the Blog Posts block to a static page - set it to display the last 3 posts, and to display featured images. 3) Publish and view the page.

Result

On the page the featured images for the published posts are overlapping each other and the sharing buttons. Post titles are not visible, and if enabled, neither are post excerpts.

This is happening in both Boardwalk and its child theme, Cubic. I can't replicate in any other theme I checked.

For the posts to be properly listed like what I see in other themes, for example, Baskerville-2:

user added a latest posts block and the featured images took over entire page and hide all content except cover block
