I've made a list of themes that I believe we should retire with more context at pNEWy-fui-p2.

Retire and Replace

These themes I think we should replace with a Block Theme and then retire. Mostly because their layout is needed or interesting and I think it's missing in our first-party recommended catalogue for Block Themes. (I'd be excited to talk with any designer who can work on creating replacements.) The ones that are already Block Themes I think could use a refresh now that we have more design tools.

Hello yes I am not themes team but I am 100% interested in this, I've been messing around with recreating classic themes just in the site editor and I've been working on learning how to create block themes (json file etc) from the .org courses. There are some other themes I think it's worth recreating too, is it OK if I suggest them?

A few others I think could be nice to have:

• Penscratch 2 (which I've sort of done again, but using the Create Block Theme plugin, haven't done fonts yet but here's what I have so far: https://fse.isace.blog/)
• Ocean Mist (https://oceanmistdemo.wordpress.com/) - yes it's old-school but it's kind of charming for that :) I know Kubrick has been blockified now
• Sequential
• Canard
• Cubic or Photos (https://cubicdemo.wordpress.com/ or https://photosdemo.wordpress.com/) - IMO Cubic is a bit nicer but would need to be styled up as the Query Loop > Post Template block doesn't yet have a way to specify no block gap in the editor

There are a couple of themes on wpcom which were Premium themes from third parties previously, but which are pretty cool IMO and worth taking inspiration from:

• TheFour
• Maisha

(Yes, a bunch of these I've already worked on using a simple wpcom site but they're just custom templates, not complete themes)
