Activity log: shows WP.com Theme Updates Available #26136

Open drwpcom opened 6 years ago

drwpcom commented 6 years ago

Steps to reproduce

  1. Starting at URL: https://wordpress.com/stats/activity/SITE
  2. Scroll through the activity log
  3. Get info about Theme updates available for WP.com themes

What I expected

I expect Activity log to show theme updates that the user actually did, or prompt the user to update themes that they uploaded. It seems strange to inform the users that updates are available when they can't do anything about it.

What happened instead

theme updates available

Context / Source

User has an AT site. Activity log tells them that there are theme updates available for Edin, Harmonic and Twenty Seventeen. @chaitanyamsv commented in Slack:

"Theme installations, updates, and deletions are part of Activity Log as I see at https://jetpack.com/support/activity-log/#data-retention"

Alerted of this by a #user-report because the user was confused what they need to do. #5040923-h

I got another case of this in #1599107-z with a site using the theme Canape by Automattic. It displayed the same behavior.
