Blog Subscription: Follow via email success message not showing up #50656

Steps to reproduce the behavior

  1. Go to your own simple site or visit my test site sjpersonal.wordpress.com (make sure you view it on a browser where you are not logged in to WP.com using any account)
  2. Click on follow at the bottom right
  3. Signup using an email address
  4. Confirm if you can see the success message like this "Thanks for subscribing! You’ll get an email with a link to confirm your subscription. If you don’t get it, please contact us."

What I expected to happen

It should display a success message like this "Thanks for subscribing! You’ll get an email with a link to confirm your subscription. If you don’t get it, please contact us" which it does when you add the signup form using the widget.

What actually happened

It does not display the success message, instead displays the option to log in which confuses the users.

Browser / OS version

Mac OS, Big Sur, Safari browser Version 14.0.3 (16610.4.3.1.4)

Mac OS, Big Sur, Chrome Version 88.0.4324.192

Also in 4690886-zen and I ran into this issue several times recently (I thought it was a feature!).

I attempted to reproduce the behavior you described, and it works correctly. I added an email and received the confirmation message on the website and via email:

You will receive an email with a link to confirm your sub. If you do not receive it, please contact us
