Premium Plan Downgrade: Videos no longer delete-able. #52025

Open scosgro opened 3 years ago

scosgro commented 3 years ago

Steps to reproduce the behavior

  1. Create a WordPress.com Premium Plan site.
  2. Upload some videos to your Media Library. Maybe make the media library larger than 3GB (user empathy challenge there)
  3. Decide to downgrade to the free/Personal Plan. Your Media Library will now be full.
  4. Go to your Media Library to try and delete some of the videos to free up space in your Media Library.

What I expected to happen

The existing items in the Media Library to still be accessible to delete, as needed.

What actually happened

Your videos remain in the Media Library, and take up that space, but are no longer visible/accessible to be removed to free up space. image

Context

User report.

Browser / OS version

All.

Is this specific to the applied theme? Which one?

Does this happen on simple or atomic sites or both?

Simple

Is there any console output or error text?

No.

Level of impact (Does it block purchases? Does it affect more than just one site?)

All simple sites that decide to downgrade, and have videos in their media library.

Reproducibility (Consistent, Intermittent) Leave empty for consistent.

Screenshot / Video: If applicable, add screenshots to help explain your problem.

The current workaround is to enabled Advanced Dashboard Pages, and view the Media Library in the WP-Admin view, where the videos are still accessible. Calypso only gives the notification that you need to upgrade to view/manage your videos.

This issue is old and probably less vital here in the future after nav-unification, but it's still jarring not being able to access video files in Calypso, only in WP-Admin, after a downgrade. It seems almost like a contradiction to the terms presented in this support document, at least in spirit.
