Creating a Post in WP-Admin Quick Drafts adds a Block containing an Invalid or Unexpected Content #69264

Quick summary

When you go to the wp-admin page of a site eg. test.com/wp-admin, and you use the 'Quick Draft' feature, the content you add will be in a block that contains Invalid or Unexpected Content.

Steps to reproduce

  1. Start at site.com/wp-admin
  2. Use Quick draft and add a title and/or content
  3. Click on the draft you have created to edit it.
  4. A block appears with a message saying "that it contains Invalid or Unexpected Content"

What you expected to happen

For the draft page to open as expected without a corrupted block. However, clicking on Attempt block recovery fixes the issue.

What actually happened

The draft page has a block with an error.

User in 37486095-hc reported this, and I was able to replicate it on my simple and atomic sites.

Workaround details

Creating a Draft from the wp-admin or Calypso Post page works fine. This happens only from the site/wp-admin Quick Draft feature.

Still reproducible. Tested and reproduced on both Simple and Atomic sites.

@worldomonation I'm looking at this issue an trying to repro but I'm unable so far. can you attach a recording of how you repro this on simple and AT sites?

@vykes-mac, with the user I got, I replicated the issue following the same steps that are shown on the recording shared on the first comment on this issue.

@carinapilar I followed those steps but still not able to repro, wanted to see if there was anything particular about persons sites that it's happening on, maybe some plugin installed? I haven't been able to repro on Simple and AT sites.

That's the Grammarly extension for Chrome. I was able to replicate the issue on Chrome and Firefox, on a Simple site (the user I got was on Atomic).

While looking at the differences between my test and yours, I noticed that your site doesn't have a custom domain, while mine, and the user's, has. I wasn't able to replicate this issue when the site has only the free address, I get the same as your testing. I also tried to set the free address as primary on my test site, but the issue persists. So it seems to me that this is happening with sites that have a custom domain, either mapped or registered, set as primary or not. Interesting!

Hmmm, @worldomonation, maybe it's something else, I wasn't able to replicate the issue on an Atomic site with the eCommerce plan and no custom domain. 🤔

The issue with the websites that has this issue is that coblocks are still enabled for those sites. Coblocks were disabled for newer sites that's why I wasn't able to repro on my sites. If we disable coblocks for older sites then that would solve the issue.
