Go to https://wordpress.com/domains/manage after completing the purchase, and find the newly purchased domain.
Click on view settings for the domain.

What you expected to happen

Privacy protection should be shown as ON.

What actually happened

Privacy protection is shown as OFF.

However, a whois on the domain shows it's enabled.
