Outdated Content in SEO & Social Media Engagement Emails #89351

Open donalirl opened 4 months ago

donalirl commented 4 months ago

Quick summary

I received two automated emails with SEO and social media tips. The emails contain links to 11-year-old articles with advice on these topics, but 11 years is a long time in internet land. We should replace the links with current resources.

Steps to reproduce

I'm not fully sure about the email schedule so I'll just attach the files as PDFs:

How to build a site search engines love.pdf

SEO on WordPress.com SEO and Your Blog Six SEO Factors You Should Know

All three links are outdated.

the secret to growing your audience.pdf

Tips on social media and your site How to connect your site to Facebook How to connect your site to Twitter How to connect your site to Instagram

First link is dated and other three are not necessarily about "connecting" and should probably be revisited.

What you expected to happen

Based on the content of the emails, here are some suggested resources to replace with:

SEO (first email)

Optimize Your Site for Search Engines https://wordpress.com/support/seo/ Additional SEO Tools https://wordpress.com/support/seo-tools/ Intro to SEO Course https://wordpress.com/learn/courses/intro-to-seo/

Social Media (second email)

Increase Your Site’s Traffic https://wordpress.com/support/getting-more-views-and-traffic/ Post Automatically to Social Media https://wordpress.com/support/post-automatically-to-social-media/ Display Instagram Posts https://wordpress.com/support/instagram/

What actually happened

Clicking the links sends the user to very old content no longer relevant to the modern website-building experience.

Reported to Marketing and asked them to take a look here - p1712736686261109-slack-C042CJ2NH

Thanks for reporting!

I investigated and shared some details here: p1712751425505909/1712736686.261109-slack-C042CJ2NH

Please note that the impact doesn't seem to be critical as it affects only one onboarding flow under specific triggering conditions. I'll follow-up here as soon as we addressed this issue.

I confirm that this onboarding flow is scheduled for revamped, and outdated content will get replaced in the upcoming weeks.

Hi @fabiocchetti, checking in on the status/priority of the issue?

As part of pb5gDS-3YO-p2, we’re trying to ensure that every blocker/high priority issue on The One Board is being actively worked on (has updates to it within 2 weeks) to reflect the priority of the issue.

If prioritization isn't possible, please close the issue with the label "Won't Fix" and comment with the reason for future reference.

Thanks 🙏

Not a bug, not high priority. Though I would like to see these updated, tagged for potential shaping project.
