When a user is renewing a domain that's not expired, it's not clear the renew will be for an extension on top of the existing subscription. For example, I have a user here 9061233-zd-a8c that renewed by mistake a few days after auto-renewal. They didn't realize that on Feb 6th, the domain was already auto-renewed.
This meant that their domain got an extra year added, and the user only found out now.
Also, showing the new expiry date on the checkout page could be helpful in making things clearer.
Why
This will ensure users are clear on what they're paying for when checking out.
