The DSM seems to not boot #934

Closed bandit400 closed 5 months ago

From a new installation in the VirtualBox environment, after having done a basic configuration (already visible in the videos at https://github.com/AuxXxilium/arc/issues/930), the system does not proceed with the boot. When calling the indicated URL, the system does not respond. The same virtual machine, started with arc-a-24.3.16.vmdk-dyn, boots regularly, calling the indicated URL the system responds with the DSM welcome page and successfully allows the installation of DSM.

System Configuration: Sysinfo Code: AK4GXPRPX Test environment: VirtualBox 7.0.8 r156879 (Qt5.15.2) ARC bootloader: arc-24.3.17.vmdk-dyn

These are the screenshots of the virtual machine started with arc-24.3.17.vmdk-dyn that fails to boot DSM:

there is no change between .16 and .17 in hardware support, so check cache file in your vm environment

AuxXxilium commented 5 months ago

and btw 0gb memory will not work. don't know if this is a bug in your config or virtualbox that is not supported at all.

bandit400 commented 5 months ago

I've controlled, but there's no issues about drive cache or similar.

With 24.3.14 works perfectly and is the latest version that, for me, boot well. And, repeat, the same virtual machine, started with arc-a-24.3.16.vmdk-dyn, boots regularly, calling the indicated URL the system responds with the DSM welcome page and successfully allows the installation of DSM.

i guess something in your hypervisor is caching data. so you have issues to boot later release, same in esxi for me, until i disabled hostcache settings.

bandit400 commented 5 months ago

No, Christian. Sorry. No issues about cache or similar. I've tried also with new machine from scratch, with the same config of the machine described in the config that i've send, and the problem persist.

The latest versions that boot well are 24.3.14 and 24.3.16-a

What information can I give you to help you find the problem?

AuxXxilium commented 5 months ago

serial log is the only thing that can help.

Attached file contain a dump of COM1 port... COM1.txt

AuxXxilium commented 5 months ago

Kernel Panic at the end, but no modules changed in these release.

Remove console addon and rebuild

bandit400 commented 5 months ago

Bingo! But this is a workaround and, for me, the "console" module is a plus. It's possible to fix this problem? And why the "i915" module isn't managed properly? What's happen?

AuxXxilium commented 5 months ago

you have choosen a model that doesn't support i915. thats the point
