Use the term subordinate instead of slave #12

Closed khunban closed 4 years ago

khunban commented 4 years ago

This is to replace all the term slave with subordinate for all documentation. This is done to comply with Intel policy.

andrew-elder commented 4 years ago

So, this repo is not governed by Intel policy. Please provide a better reason for making this change. Has IEEE1588 made the change?

eric-mann commented 4 years ago

I’m not aware of this policy (?)

IEEE 802.1AS-Rev/D8.0 had 17 comments requesting a similar change. All were rejected because we agreed that the terms master/slave had a specific technical meaning that was very well understood throughout many communications standards and to change those words could cause the loss of that technical meaning. @khunban - so, I hope you won't be offended if I close this PR? We really do have to stick with IEEE802.1AS terminology, otherwise we are going to confuse people. If this is very important to you, I would suggest you continue to follow up through IEEE channels.

khunban commented 4 years ago

I understand. Please close this PR. Thank you Andrew.
